Givenchy is Matthew M Williams

The show was staged behind L’École Militaire, an active military academy, and the garments appeared to be the sorts of clothes that would be worn by the cadets in a not-so-distant cyberpunk future. The models emerged from a giant, ice-blue cube with a large square exit with steam exiting from within as if they were being freshly generated in real time. The models walked around the cube on a stage of water, both calling a messiac imagery while also emphasizing the water-proof nature. Some of the clothes looked like active military fatigues, complete with backpacks, duffles, 3D-printed G-shaped sunglasses, and the TK-MX running shoes. Other clothes could easily be worn as casual wear for days off within the barracks, along with distressed denim, a classic Williams addition, and the perfect casual wear for a dystopic future.

While the clothes were not anything surprising from any fans of Mr. Williams, they certainly were an escape from tradition for Givenchy after Clare Waight Keller’s more traditional take on menswear. Now that such a loud declaration has been made that Givenchy is under Mr. Williams’s free reign, we are excited to see where he takes it next.
