Making Something Out of Nothing

Michael Saiger founded Miansai while in college and now works alongside his wife and fashion director, Rachael. The importance of family extends throughout the whole brand and can be felt the second you step foot into Miansai headquarters. One of the core family values is the desire to maintain full creative control and so every stage of production, from initial brainstorming to packing and shipping orders, takes place under the same roof. Saiger also took it upon himself to design the interiors for their brick-and-mortar stores in SoHo and Los Angeles so that every aspect aligns with the vision of the brand.

Gab Bois and her aptitude for seeing something special in everyday objects and repurposing them into thought provoking art aligns seamlessly with the brand and this new collection. The Montreal native began producing her art in 2016, and within two years was able to make it a full-time pursuit. Although her formal education had her on the path to becoming an elementary school teacher, she was introduced to the creative world at an early age by her painter father and was always likely to continue creating in whatever industry she found herself.

When speaking with Gab on her early artistic inspirations, she labelled herself a “huge consumer of content” and had no hesitation in crediting other people’s photos and videos as a source of motivation. “That’s how you start”, she says, “you have to get really close inspiration from elsewhere.”

Being based in Miami, it was only natural for Miansai to launch the new line alongside this year’s Art Basel happenings. Among the collection highlights are earrings made from iPhone cameras and a bracelet that incorporates repurposed SIM cards and somehow makes a piece of current technology feel nostalgic.

You can check out the full collection on the Miansai website.
