A "Pointless" Contest
The showdown was packed with jaw-dropping enders, blessing us with a jam packed “pointless” contest that managed to reflect the culture in a way that so many other skateboarding competitions have failed to do so, effectively embodying the zeal and supportiveness prevalent within this awe-inspiring community.
The event was formatted in various “heats” which separated a large pool of participating skaters into groups of 3-4, giving them five minutes to knock out a load of tricks on center stage. Absent from the competition was any sort of competitive brooding, filling its place with screams of encouragement and appreciation, the loudest hollers coming from the “Athlete Zone,” where on-deck and finished skating contestants hung out to watch the show unfold.
Featuring some of the most stylish men and women in skate, they clocked an absurd amount of Oakley sport sunglasses across the board, a sight that effectively convinced me to dig through my old baseball gear at home, hoping that I’d find my old pair.
