Madre: A Disruptive Environment

Once the film finished, it came to life— two long-nosed creatures, costumes sweeping the floor, literally began sweeping at the audience, forming the crowd into a circle. More followed, as loud, intense music blared, figures one by one, until seven stood in total— all assuming the same creepy demeanor as Lalita’s character from the film. Clad in their 3-D, sculptural costumes, they strangely, slowly traveled through the small space and crowd.

The concept behind the event had been combining theatre, sculpture, music, and film, to “disrupt the conventional relationship between musician and audience”. Departing the theater, thinking of darkness and nightmarish matriarchs— we can confirm that this environment delivered on disrupting.
